Abstract

Due to the complexity of distribution systems, fault location in distribution systems is still a challenging problem. Lateral lines, loads and sparse data give errors to fault location methods. This paper proposed an improved fault location method by using some voltage sag data in distribution systems. The main idea is to indicate a fault point by using the relationship between voltage sag and feeder impedance. By considering a real distribution system, the performance of the proposed method is evaluated. Various fault resistances are tested. The results show that fault point can be indicated effectively.
