Abstract

Existing methods and devices for locating faults in dc lines are analyzed. A fault location algorithm is proposed for a nonuniform dc line based on the spectral method. This algorithm can also be successfully employed to determine a short circuit in a uniform line as in the special case of a nonuniform dc line. Results of a calculation of the distance to the fault location as a function of the attenuation of the oscillatory process are presented.
