Abstract

With the development of wind power industry, early detection and diagnosis of incipient faults are desirable for the wind generators. A suitable model enables generator faults to be simulated and it is particularly useful for gaining an insight into their dynamic behavior and electro-mechanical interaction. In this paper a model of DFIG (Doubly-Fed Induction Generator) affected by stator inter-turn short circuit fault is presented. The mathematical model is established to simulate healthy and inter-turn fault conditions based on synchronous rotating reference frame. In the simulation, the negative-sequence component of stator currents and phase differences between any two phases are as detection features. The results of the simulation confirmed the validity of the model.
