Abstract

A fault diagnosis system is developed for a milling machine to increase the safety and the reliability. The system is implemented on a real machine tool. Only signals are used which are available without additional sensors: voltages and currents of the motors. The system detects wear and breakage of teeth by computing Fourier transforms of certain frequencies recursively and on-line. Forces onto the workpiece and the mean of the flank wearland lengths are used to prove the results.
