Abstract

With the ever-increasing application of DC based renewable energy systems, it is high time to consider High Voltage DC (HVDC) system in field application. Hence, the support system for HVDC transmission and distribution along with proper safety equipment such as fault detection system is necessary. This paper consists a detailed view upon design and simulation of a HVDC fault detection system. The simulation is done in MATLAB/Simulink. This allowed to study and analyze the behaviors of HVDC system. The fault detection is found by selecting specific parameters and hence comparing them to the ideal. The paper also provided an overall image of the effectiveness of HVDC system.
