Abstract

Fatty acids, free amino acids and sterols from three species of Stropharia (Strophariaceae) and two species of Stereum (Stereaceae), all saprophytic basidiomycetes, were determined. Linoleic acid was the main component of the fatty acid fraction; the most abundant free amino acids were Ala, Val and Thr. The sterol fraction was mainly constituted of C 28 sterol with ergosterol as the major component.
