Abstract

1. 1. The fatty acid composition of phosphoglycerides and sphingolipids in myelin and phosphoglycerides in synaptosomes isolated from brain tissue of patients with phenylketonuria, and Down's Syndrome is compared with the fatty acid composition of lipids in myelin and synaptosomes from normal human brain. 2. 2. The implications of changes in the fatty acid composition of lipids in myelin and synaptosomes from PKU and DS brains with respect to functional abnormality of the membranes are discussed.
