Abstract

Cellular fatty acid composition of 14 strains from the four species of Azospirillum was determined by gas chromatographic analysis. All strains of Azospirillum lipoferum and Azospirillum brasilense were similar in fatty acid data, thus not revealing an expected distinction between the two long established species. Strains of both Azospirillum halopraeferens and Azospirillum amazonense, however, differed significantly from this first group of strains.
