Abstract

The fatigue strength of butt-welded joints having angular distortion is investigated for the amount of angular distortion, overstressing prior to fatigue loading, and the distance between loading points. The cyclic strain range, measured near the toe of the reinforcement of weld, correlate with the fatigue life regardless of the amount of angular distortion. A simple elastic-plastic analysis was used successfully to quantity the behavior of the joint and to estimate the fatigue life of such members with different geometry.
