Abstract

4-point bend fatigue results of AISI 4140 laser clad with 410SS, 420SS, and nickel-aluminum bronze (NAB) are reported. AISI 4140 plate, in the annealed condition, was laser clad using a 6 kW CO2 with 410SS, 420SS, and NAB as well as a 25 kW CO2 with 420SS and NAB. All fatigue tests were done in the as-deposited condition, i.e., no post-clad heat treatment was performed. Results show that the fatigue life is reduced for all tested conditions.
