Abstract

AbstractThis review is addressed to metallurgists who may wish to look into the state of affairs regarding the fatigue of aircraft structures. Emphasis is placed on airplane structure, principally the subsonic jet airframe, as representative of aircraft generally. Basic factors contributing to airframe fatigue are examined; selected reports dealing with the subject are related to these in a way that should permit critical reading about developments in this field for the next decade or more.
