Despite the undoubted advances achieved over recent years in the technology of structural ceramics, the problem still remains concerning improving the reproducibility and reducing the variation in the properties of ceramic materials. The latter not only increases the labor content of such research, but also complicates the task of defining the ceramic properties as well as requiring specialized analysis to determine the causes of properties scatter and the multiplicity of failure mechanisms.
