Abstract

An applied approach for predicting the fatigue life of the through-hole for needled ceramic matrix composite was proposed by using the 0° layers volume fraction and the fatigue notch factor, which can be applicable for the needled composite with different lamination types. In the proposed approach, the fatigue limit and stress-life (S–N) curve of the needled ceramic matrix composite with different 0° layer volume fractions were estimated by interpolation method first. On this basis, combined with the fatigue notch factor determined by the smooth and through-hole specimens with arbitrary 0° layer volume fraction, the fatigue life of the through-hole can be predicted. By comparing the predicted lives with the experimental lives, the proposed fatigue life prediction approach has high prediction accuracy.
