Abstract
Using three kinds of double-ply welded bellows made of Ni base alloy A and / or B, the effect of the configuration of corrugated plate on the fatigue life of bellows has been investigated. Ni base alloy A is a higher-strength metal and Ni base alloy B is a highly corrosion-resistant metal. Sample 1 is a conventional (same-metal welded) bellows made of alloy A and sample 2 is a dissimilar-metal welded bellows made of alloys A and B. These two bellows are constructed from corrugated plates of the same shape. On the other hand, sample 3, which is a dissimilar-metal welded bellows made of alloys A and B, is constructed from two differently shaped corrugated plates arranged alternately. From the fatigue test, it was shown that sample 3 has a longer fatigue life compared with samples 2 and 1. The advantage of bellows constructed from differently shaped corrugated plates was also confirmed by FEM stress analysis.
