Abstract
The cause and prevention of service failures of jet engine drive shafts was investigated by various methods. A materials investigation revealed a low fatigue resistance associated with material deficiencies for certain shafts, including the failed ones. Nevertheless the final and most economic solution to the problem was found by vibration analysis.
