Abstract
This note poses an important question: Why do internal cracks propagate at ΔKapplied much lower than ΔKth for long cracks? It is hypothesized, that internal cracks demonstrate such a behaviour because of the internal stresses, which superpose on to the total driving force ΔKtotal.
