Abstract

Objective: To describe the first case of fatal hemorrhage secondary to a functioning islet cell carcinoma of the pancreas during pregnancy reported in the literature.Methods: Data used for this case report come from the autopsy report of an obstetric patient and the special stains performed on sections of the tumor that were obtained at surgery.Results: The special stains used reveal this to be a functioning neuroendocrine tumor producing gastrin.Conclusions: No previous cases of a fatal hemorrhage from a gastrinoma in pregnancy were found during literature review.
