Abstract

The radioactivity of the whole blood and of the trichloroacetic acid precipitate after ingestion of a Raolein test meal was studied in 19 patients with myocardial infarction, and the findings were compared to those of a control group of 20 subjects. The group of patients with myocardial infarction showed statistically significant high values of radioactivity in sharp contrast to standard indices of atherosclerosis, which were of very little value in this group. This method can be accepted as a more reliable index of atherosclerosis and may be used as a screening test for a long-term follow-up study of a large population.
