Abstract

The study of spectral and kinetic characteristics of fast ultraviolet luminescence in pure CsI crystals has been carried out in a wide range of temperatures and excitation conditions. The presence of homological impurities into CsI crystals has been found to result in a long-wave shifting of the luminescence band and shortening of the decay time. The most probable nature of high-temperature luminescence in CsI crystals is discussed. The main problems concerned with the creation of large size radiation-stable scintillators for high-energy and nuclear physics are described.
