Abstract

We report on the study of a Fast RICH detector with a CaF 2 radiator, able to stand a high rate of events. The photon detector is a MWPC of 2 mm half gap, operated with methane and TEA at NTP. The simultaneous localization of charged particles and Cherenkov photoelectrons is performed at the sense wires and by measurement of induced pulses at pads equipped with the VLSI C-MOS Amplex (ECN of 1100 electrons) and a fast analog multiplexed readout. Measurements are presented concerning (1) detection efficiency and spread of induced signals from charged particles and single electrons, (2) observation of Cherenkov rings.
