Abstract

This study concerns the development of a new gas pressure control system that can effectively shorten the response time of gas pressure regulation for gas-assisted injection molding of thin-wall parts. In order to improve the delay and response times during gas injection process, a high-pressure accumulator and a fast on-off gas valve were implemented to a commonly used gas-assisted unit combined with suitable control algorithm. Experimental verifications show that the proposed control system can significantly shorten the response time from about 0.5 seconds to 0.03 seconds and becomes more suitable and possible application for thin-wall injection molding.
