Abstract

The influence of fast neutron irradiation on the intragrain critical currents density, J c, and on the position of the irreversibility line in YBa 2Cu 4O 8 (124) ceramics was studied in fields up to 8 T. The highest radiation-induced enhancement of J c occurs at comparatively low fluences (< 5.5 21 m −2) and shows an unusual temperature dependence, namely a maximum at about 40 K. A shift of the irreversibility line to higher fields and temperatures is observed after irradiation. The depinning fields are proportional to (1− T/ T c ) α . The exponent α decreases after irradiation from 1.76 (unirradiated sample) to 1.49 (at the highest fluence).
