Abstract

Construction and performance of a segmented U/Cu scintillator calorimeter is described in this paper. On the basis of extensive beam tests with 12 GeV pion and muon beams, we have constructed a fast Monte Carlo simulation of the lateral spread of a shower, including both the average shower profile and shower fluctuations. The structure of the Monte Carlo simulation is described, and its results are compared to test beam data.
