Abstract

A fast and easy method for modeling Terahertz (THz) Marchand balun is proposed. Based on the distributed model for the broadside coupled line, a general model for Marchand balun in THz CMOS design is built. The relationship between the model parameters and line width of the balun is studied, the practical expressions for model parameters are gained which extend the model to be scalable to the width and length of the balun. In the frequency range from 200GHz to 340GHz, a balun is designed by using this improved model and EM simulation, respectively. Compared with EM simulation, the model shows good accuracy and can be a fast solution for Terahertz Marchand balun design.
