Abstract

Gold atoms are deposited on liquid water surfaces by a low-pressure, fast-flow technique. This leads either to surface penetration with formation of a gold sol, or metal film growth on the liquid surface. The lifetime with respect to surface penetration is estimated, and several applications are discussed.
