Abstract
Due to the increase in usage of Electrical Vehicles (EVs) in recent days, necessity of fast charging of battery is the challenging problem facing todayworldwide. Fast charging of an EV battery can be done with bulk transfer of electrical power and reduction of grid side harmonics in the rectifier. In order to transfer the bulk power and to reduce the grid side harmonics the commercial, efficient and visible solution is usage of five phase supply which can be obtained by changing transformer tapping. Generally, five phase supply is applicable for the speed control adjustable drives. Hence, a Multi-Pulse Flexible Topology Thyristor Rectifier (MPFTTR) is proposed in this paper. It is suitable for the bulk power and used in fast charging of EVs. The proposed MPFTTR operates in five different modes and produces five different voltage levels for fast charging of battery of an EV. The proposed work using various types of converters reduces the gird side harmonics in the rectifier and the fast charging of EVs can be achieved. Finally, the 24MPFTTR output voltage is verified by simulation work in Hybrid mode with 24 pulse(HM24P) Mode.
