Abstract

When improved ultra-wide band characteristic basis function method (IUCBFM) is used to calculate wideband radar cross section (RCS) of objects, the reduced matrix at each frequency point need to be reconstructed, which is very time-consuming. To solve this problem, an effective numerical method to fast calculate wideband RCS of objects by combining IUCBFM and asymptotic waveform evaluation (AWE) technique is proposed. The improved ultra-wide band characteristic basis functions can be reused at each interpolation points, so it can save the time of generating the characteristic basis functions. Moreover, to avoid the reduced matrix reconstruction at each frequency point, IUCBFM is combined with the AWE technique to fast predict the surface current at any frequency point in the to-be-solved frequency band and further realize the fast calculation of wideband RCS of objects. Compared with traditional IUCBFM, the method in this paper significantly improves the efficiency. Furthermore, the numerical calculation results have proved its precision and validity.
