Abstract

Extremely large nonlinearities have been measured in CdS, a 2.59 eV direct gap semiconductor exhibiting excitonic effects. Both the free and the bound exciton nonlinearities were studied. No experimental evidence for the biexciton resonance was obtained. Low switching energy (<4pJ), high switching speed (<1ns), all-optical bistability was observed for a small detuning from the bound exciton resonance.KeywordsNonlinear AbsorptionFree ExcitonOptical BistabilitySwitching EnergyNonlinear IndexThese keywords were added by machine and not by the authors.
