Abstract
This article deals with Rudlf Ottos’s concept of sacred from his classic book The Holy. It highligts esencials topics aiming at the understading of the author’s central idea: the sacred, as a compost and complex concept, has intrinsic relationship between its rational and irrational elements. The article gives special attention to the comprehension to the numinous, the irrational religion’s essential, and presents a demonstrative table of the rational and irrational elements and its subdivisions. Also it makes considerations about the author's phenomenological and comprehensive approach of the holy, reaffirming the value of the irrational element in the idea of a transcendent God. In addiction it points out Rudolf Otto’s significant legacy for further researches about theology, philosophy and history of the religions.
