Abstract

Sera from patients with Fasciolopsis buski infection were found to be reactive in complement fixation tests using an extract of adult worms as a source of antigen. Most of the control sera studied demonstrated reactivity of a lesser degree. There was a trend toward greater reactivity in sera from patients with Opisthorchus viverrini infections than in healthy contol sera. The data indicate that Fasciolopsis buski infections conform to the general pattern for intestinal helminthiasis in that the host response includes antibody production. This is the first demonstration of an antibody response to this parasite. These experiments provide a basis for further immunological studies of fasciolopsiasis.
