Abstract

Novel coordination compounds of the type Fe(LC 12) 3Cl 2, Fe(LC 18) 3Cl 2, Cu(LC 12)Cl 2 and Cu(LC 18)Cl 2 (where LC 12 and LC 18 denote 4,4′-didodecyloxy-2,2′-bipyridine and 4,4′-dioctadecyloxy-2,2′-bipyridine, respectively) have been synthesized and characterized by means of their far i.r. spectra. On the basis of 63Cu 65Cu and 54Fe 56Fe isotope substitutions the assignments of bands due to metal—ligand vibrations have been made. A pseudooctahedral ( D 3) structure has been proposed for both iron(II) complexes, whereas a polymeric octahedral, chloride bridged structure ( C i ) seems most favorable for both copper(II) complexes.
