Abstract
Novel coordination compounds of the type Fe(LC 12) 3Cl 2, Fe(LC 18) 3Cl 2, Cu(LC 12)Cl 2 and Cu(LC 18)Cl 2 (where LC 12 and LC 18 denote 4,4′-didodecyloxy-2,2′-bipyridine and 4,4′-dioctadecyloxy-2,2′-bipyridine, respectively) have been synthesized and characterized by means of their far i.r. spectra. On the basis of 63Cu 65Cu and 54Fe 56Fe isotope substitutions the assignments of bands due to metal—ligand vibrations have been made. A pseudooctahedral ( D 3) structure has been proposed for both iron(II) complexes, whereas a polymeric octahedral, chloride bridged structure ( C i ) seems most favorable for both copper(II) complexes.
