Abstract

The reorientational correlation functions and the rotational—velocity correlation functions of HCl in CCl4, H2O and D2O in C6H6 have been obtained from the observed bandshapes of far-infrared absorptions. Both functions have positive humps at the same time. This fact indicates a librational nature of angular motion due to correlation among a few successive collisions. These functions are compared with the correlation functions of the free rotor. The time constants related to the angular motion and mean angles of free rotation are estimated.
