Far from simple: insect immune defences

Abstract

No more than 20 years ago, it would have been difficult to fill a book on the topic of insect immunity. After reading Insect Infection and Immunity, edited by Jens Rolff and Stuart E. Reynolds, it is clear that ten times more space would now be needed to cover the field and its complexities. More importantly, it also becomes apparent that we are witnessing the birth of a new field of research that has much to offer.
