Abstract

During the period of the 1960s — 1970s the name “the era of stagnation” was firmly established in Russia. With all the brightness and success of the metaphor, this name does not so much reveal as displace, hides from our view the complex and far from unambiguous reality of the epoch. The publication examines the population dynamics of the Far Eastern region and migration policy in the conditions of its economic development. and correctly. A general description of large-scale infrastructure projects is given, among which the construction of BAM is the main one. The specifics of solving social problems and the peculiarities of the socio-political development of the Far East are determined. Attention is focused on the fact that the region played an important role in the state security system of the USSR and remained a Soviet outpost in the geopolitical space of the Asia-Pacific region.
