Abstract

The family history is an important basic component of a pre-IVF screening protocol for egg donors. Genetic counselors are ideally suited to collect the most comprehensive history and illuminate risk factors to offspring when conditions with a genetic component are identified in a family. Donors typically provide information about family health history via questionnaire. The questionnaires vary in depth depending on relatives included and questions asked. Response quality varies greatly based on effort spent by the donor gathering detailed information and ability to reach out to extended family.
