Abstract
This paper describes a transgenerational family therapy perspective as the approach of choice to providing therapeutic assistance to children of divorce. Major stress points for such children—the separation/divorce (breakup of the nuclear family household) and the remarriage of the parent/s—are placed within the broad framework of pre-divorce, divorcing, and post-divorce stages. Primary attention clinically is given to the major issues for children of divorce: loss and reactions to continuing marital discord.
