Abstract

The Family Planning Council of Nigeria which is a voluntary organization sponsored by the National Council of Women of Nigeria is involved in the family planning programs in Nigeria working in conjuction with the Department of Community Health of the Lagos University College of Medicine. The Family Planning Council was inaugurated in 1964. With the financial support of the Population Council a postpartum program is in the process of being established at the Island Maternity Hospital which has about 25000 deliveries per year. A KAP Survey of Family Planning was performed in 1966 in Lagos by the Department of Community Health. Major current problem is that of getting the branches of the Family Planning Council to function with adequately trained personnel.
