Abstract

This paperback handbook is published by the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) primarily for use by its affiliated agencies in many countries throughout the world. The IPPF was founded in 1948 in Cheltenham, England, as the International Committee on Planned Parenthood. It is having a considerable impact on countries other than the United States, and gained consultative status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations in 1964. It later gained consultative status with the World Health Organization, UNICEF, and UNESCO. Perhaps the person associated with this agency best known to American physicians is Margaret Sanger, its first president. This handbook is surprisingly expensive at $15 per copy, since it is subsidized by the IPPF; however, the book contains a notice that it will be given free of charge to those experiencing special difficulties in payment, such as currency restrictions.
