Abstract

In this reply, the authors address the comments of L. Chassin and E. D. Handley (2006) and of K. Fromme (2006) on the authors' article, Attachment, Parental Control, and Early Development of Alcohol Use: A Longitudinal Study (H. van der Vorst, R. C. M. E. Engels, W. Meeus, M. Dekovic, & A. Vermulst, 2006). Further, the authors elaborate on some topics in the area of parenting and substance use-for example, testing bidirectional associations between parenting and adolescents' substance use, the importance of measuring substance-specific socialization, and the relevance of using within-family designs and multi-informant data.
