Abstract

This article reviews four studies dealing with relations between generations undertaken in France. One of the studies (Le Bras, 1973), using a demographic model, shows the probable existence of several generations at the same point in time. The other three studies (Roussel,. 1976; Pitrou, 1977; Gokalp, 1978) are based on sample surveys and examine relations between parents and their married children. It is clear from the review that the notion of the «islation» of the conjugal family in urban-ind us trial society is not supported by the evidence.
