Abstract

Family advocates and family counsellors represent the best interests of children in divorce actions. This article aims to reflect the perception and experience of family advocates and family counsellors of the family advocate system. Two questionnaires, an evaluation questionnaire and Maslach's Career Burnout Questionnaire, were sent to all permanently appointed family advocates and family counsellors in the Offices of the Family Advocate. Aspects such as their positive experiences, recommendations for better service delivery, factors to be taken into account in evaluations, and the degree of career burnout were covered in the questionnaires. The results and their implication for the Office of the Family Advocate are discussed.
