Abstract

The work that is presented is part of a larger investigation, “Mobility, family solidarity and citizenship in Metropolitan Regions”, the aim of which was to describe and explain the potentialities and constrictions of the scattered residence development in the evolvement of social relations. This article focuses on the analysis of people and families which, within the Metropolitan Region of Barcelona, have moved to low density, scattered residential developments. Its aim is to analyse the reasons that would have induced them to abandon the compact cities; when they moved; what their places of origin and destination are; and what their current places of residence and their surroundings are like.
