Abstract

Patients with familial hyperlipidemia have a long term high risk for a cardiovascular disease which is of the order 20 to 40%. FH valvulopathy is characterized by involvement of the left-sided valves, primarily the aortic valve. Valvular heart disease frequently occurs as a consequence of premature atherosclerosis in individuals with familial dyslipidemia. Calcific degenerative aortic valve disease is a progressive disease, encompassing the spectrum from aortic sclerosis on one side, to severe aortic stenosis on the other.
