Abstract

Achalasia in children is uncommon, and its occurrence in siblings has been reported in only two families. The case reports of two brothers, ages two and eight years, with achalasia and pulmonary complications are presented. In both cases, symptoms of an esophageal disorder were vague, but comparison of chest radiographs and barium swallow studies confirmed the diagnosis of achalasia with aspiration. This diagnosis should be considered when recurrent respiratory disease is encountered.
