Abstract
Law N° 20.911 arises as a tool to strengthen civic education programs at Chilean schools through the implementation of civic education plan from a collaborative point of view and permanent dialogue. Thus, this reflexive essay has as a main objective, to know the origins of this law, emphasize the importance of family school relationship and finally, expose the origin and evolution of the concepts of family and school. Researches about this issue, have made us affirm that family involvement in the teaching-learning processes bring better results than dissociation of these two institutions; because of that, strategies development to make families part of school processes as well as the commitment of the whole educational community to develop more democratic spaces and opportunities is essential.
