Abstract

upgrading administrative support, going ‘‘virtual,’’ billing and coding education, developing a mentoring program, submitting for PQRI reimbursement, and incorporating a ‘‘special visit design’’ to improve services. We will show the financial impact of each of these developments as well as describe our four pillar system for supporting our palliative care program which includes revenue generated from Part B billings, hospital and hospice support, and innovation. We will discuss tools to calculate the proper support for palliative care from collaborative hospitals and share how we calculate financial benefit of palliative care to make the case for hospice support. Data collection and management is an important element of providing good palliative care. We will share the QDACT, a database tool we developed, and review data from over 2,000 new patients. Finally we will share some of the innovative strategies for raising funds for palliative care including grant support, community fundraising, research, and thrift stores.
