Abstract
Purpose: The PACU has specific goals and requirements that merit unique in-services and documentation to ensure Joint Commission compliance is met. While recovering from anesthesia, wrist restraints are used as a patient safety measure. It is not uncommon for our PACU to recover Intensive Care Unit and Observation Unit patients beyond the point of meeting anesthesia discharge requirements. To address these issues, a staff nurse joined the Fall Restraint Committee to become the specialist for the PACU and integrate the proper practice of restraints into the division.
