Abstract

To date, six funeral ensembles containing falcon-headed mummy cases have been found. In this paper these funeral ensembles are discussed, in order to define the conceptual character of the falcon-headed mummy case, whether its occurrence was confined to a more or less limited period, and whether the falcon head on mummy cases was essentially a royal attribute.
