Abstract

Mental retardation is a condition characterized by low intelligence which causes the inability of individuals to learn and adapt to the environment. Mental retardation explains the abnormal state of general intellectual function. Parental support and home atmosphere have a great influence on children's learning achievement mild mental retardation as a result of research conducted by researchers in the Kartini city of Batam extraordinary school in 2013. The purpose of this study is to know the relationship between parental support and home atmosphere with learning achievement for children with mild mental retardation. The population is an extraordinary elementary school student in the city of Batam. The study was conducted in June, with a total sample of 40 respondents taken in Total Sampling. The results showed that the learning achievement of children with mild mental retardation was obtained by respondents with good performance as many as 11 respondents (27.5%), enough as many as 4 respondents (10.0%), and less as many as 17 respondents (42.5%). Furthermore, the relationship between the atmosphere of the house and the learning achievement of mild mental retardation children with good achievement was 11 respondents (27.5%), enough as many as 4 respondents (10.0%), and less than 15 respondents (37.5%). Based on the results of the study it can be concluded that parental support is less than 17 respondents (42.5%). The majority of children with mild mental retardation were less than 15 respondents (37.5%). Learning outcomes of children with mild mental retardation were less than 22 respondents (55.0%). There is a relationship between parental support and home atmosphere with children's learning achievement mild mental retardation.
