Abstract

Anemia in young women is a common problem especially in developing countries. Data from Metro City Health Office reported the prevalence of anemia of adolescents aged 15-19 years amounted to 67%. The objective of the study was to investigate risk factors related to the incidence of anemia in adolescent girls. The study design using cross sectional study was conducted in November 2016 at Pondok Pesantren Tuma'ninah Yasin Metro City. The sample of this research is 69 female teenagers obtained by total population technique. Data analysis was done in stages, which is univariate analysis and bivariate analysis using chi square test. The results showed that the incidence of anemia in adolescents amounted to 68.1%. Risk factors that increased the incidence of anemia in juvenile males, ie pattern mentsruasi (p = 0.001, POR = 6.250), nutritional status or BMI (p = 0.32; POR = 3.096), knowledge (p = 0.050; POR = 3.083 ). Meanwhile, other unrelated variables, namely the pattern of drinking tea and intake of Fe tablets. The importance of health education efforts about anemia to young women and consume tablets Fe, especially young women who have abnormal menstrual patterns.
